The West Orange Warriors came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 47-30 win over Apopka. Given West Orange's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Apopka is ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Orange's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Satterfield, who scored eight points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Calvez, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mazaiah Marc and Aina Valenzuela certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Marc dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Valenzuela scored six points along with five rebounds. That was a full 46.7% of Apopka's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Apopka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Orange only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
West Orange has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Apopka, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Orange won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Winter Haven at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. Winter Haven is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.9 points per game. Apopka on the road again on Tuesday and play against Lake Mary at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
