Titusville is 0-4 against Oil City since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Titusville Rockets will look to defend their home field against the Oil City Oilers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Titusville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Warren, posting a 49-19 win at home. With Titusville ahead 35-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Jaxon Covell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 44 receiving yards. Covell is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nate Stearns, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Oil City never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Conneaut Area last Friday. Oil City blew past Conneaut Area 70-6 at home.
Ethen Knox had a dynamite game for Oil City, rushing for 246 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.7 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonny Hargenrader, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-3.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Titusville and Oil City haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Titusville commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.2 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Oil City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Titusville lost to Oil City at home by a decisive 30-14 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Titusville have more luck at home instead of on the road?
