Fort Chiswell hasn't had much luck against Auburn recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pioneers will challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fort Chiswell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Parry McCluer. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pioneers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Blair Jackson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Jenna Ball and Lilly Goforth did most of the damage at the plate: Ball went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Goforth went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Ball a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberlyn Hart, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Fort Chiswell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Auburn won against Grayson County last Wednesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand Narrows a 12-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won eight matchups in a row.
The team relied heavily on Hope Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Johnnie Gaynor was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Auburn's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Fort Chiswell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Fort Chiswell suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Auburn in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
