Vega and Sunray are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After soaring to 42 points the game before, Vega were a bit more limited in their game back in October. They were outmatched by Gruver on the road and fell 51-7. Vega was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-0.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Sunray's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They and Gruver were almost perfectly matched up, but Sunray suffered an agonizing 42-41 defeat. Despite running the score up even higher than they did back in October (34), Sunray still had to take the loss.
Armando Lujan put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
Vega's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Gruver, Olton, and Stratford. As for Sunray, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
Vega didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Sunray in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 45-39 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vega since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
