Independence is 0-8 against Memorial since March of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Independence Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Memorial Warriors at 6:00 p.m.
Independence is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Emerson on Friday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mavericks.
Stormy DANIEL was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Memorial won against Centennial on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Memorial put the hurt on Heritage with a sharp 12-1 victory. Considering the Warriors have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Megan Wilson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Sophia Cooper was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in triples (two). Sanaa Moses was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
Independence's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-5. As for Memorial, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-6.
Independence suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Memorial when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Independence avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
