The Wheeler Eagles will challenge the Jumpertown Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Wheeler walked away with a 5-2 victory over Tremont. The win made it back-to-back victories for Wheeler.
The team relied heavily on Brayden Edwards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Jumpertown entered their tilt with Byers on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 17-4 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kingston Orchard was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Reece Johnson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Levi Elliott was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Jumpertown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Jumpertown's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeler, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Everything went Wheeler's way against Jumpertown in their previous matchup back in February, as Wheeler made off with a 13-5 win. Will Wheeler repeat their success, or does Jumpertown has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
