The Gateway Gators will head out to challenge the Montour Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
While Gateway's victory against McKeesport wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Gators had just enough and edged out the Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Gators have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Roman Jennings made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Jennings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Cameron Gottschalk looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Donovan Deluco, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jon Saunders, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Montour was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Connellsville.
Montour saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Young, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. That hit was Young's first of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Montour, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Gateway's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Gators have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Montour, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gateway continue to outrun the ball? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
