The Salem Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Breese Central Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
After a string of three wins, Salem's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell victim to a rough 11-1 loss at the hands of St. Anthony. Salem has not had much luck with St. Anthony recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Salem saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Powless, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Breese Central was handed a 12-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Byron on Monday. Breese Central had just enough and edged Byron out 7-5. The win was just what Breese Central needed coming off of a 14-2 loss in their prior game.
Austin Thole was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Benny Lehman, who went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Salem's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Breese Central, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Salem was able to grind out a solid victory over Breese Central when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 5-2. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Breese Central's Chase Lewis, who struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
