The Brennan Bears waltzed into their match on Saturday with 16 straight wins but they left with 17. They took down O'Connor 70-54. Given Brennan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while O'Connor is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brennan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camden Cowgill, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Talon Todd, who scored 13 points.
Despite the loss, O'Connor still got an impressive performance from Luke Bledsoe, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Herrera, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
O'Connor struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Brennan pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Brennan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. As for O'Connor, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 18-12.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Warren the next time they take the court. Brennan will head out to face Warren at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while O'Connor will host them at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
