The Monterey Dores will face off against the Watsonville Wildcatz at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monterey has seven straight wins, Watsonville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Monterey's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past North Salinas 15-0. The Dores might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Ella Myers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Myers was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Monterey got a massive performance out of Jaelyn Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Taylor a new career-high. Denae Lee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Salinas hit Watsonville with a seven-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcatz lost 15-5 to the Cowboys.
Watsonville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Espinoza, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Monterey pushed their record up to 15-3-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Watsonville, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
Everything went Monterey's way against Watsonville in their previous matchup back in April, as Monterey made off with a 17-6 victory. Do the Dores have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcatz turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
