The Cheshire Academy Cats will venture away from home to challenge the Canterbury School Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cheshire Academy will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
Cheshire Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Salisbury School, who was ranked second at the time (Cheshire Academy was ranked third). The Cats came out on top against the Crimson Knights by a score of 5-2 on Saturday.
Tyler Stone looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cheshire Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pereira, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Pereira's first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canterbury School, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Williston Northampton 9-1 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.
Carter Heagle made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Heagle was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other pitching news, Jake Petrin tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
Back at the plate, Ryan Gabianelli and Aaron Morice did most of the damage at the plate: Gabianelli went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Morice went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Morice has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Martel, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Cheshire Academy's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Canterbury School, their record is now 7-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheshire Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Canterbury School struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
