Given Jacksonville's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Cherokee County is ranked 409th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacksonville was led to victory by Jaquan Ervin and Devin Barksdale. Ervin scored 11 points along with four steals, while Barksdale scored 21 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Barksdale has scored at least 25% of Jacksonville's points. Aaron Nixon was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Jacksonville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Cherokee County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jacksonville will take on Cleburne County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cherokee County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Piedmont at 7:00 p.m.
