After a string of five wins, ASU Prep Poly's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to Heritage Academy Gateway.
ASU Prep Poly's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of CJ Welcome, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Ashton Turner who scored 16 points. Turner continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Collins, who scored two points along with five assists and four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Heritage Academy Gateway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brock Akin, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Akin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Talon Lemieux was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
ASU Prep Poly's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Heritage Academy Gateway, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
ASU Prep Poly will head out on the road to face off against Ridgeview College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Heritage Academy Gateway, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgeline Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Ridgeline Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
