Brie (Brieana) Villanueva was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paityn Zimmerman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Juliette Torres, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.
University Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Big Bear came up short against Riverside Prep on Thursday, falling 17-2. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
University Prep pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Big Bear, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.
Everything went University Prep's way against Big Bear when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as University Prep made off with a 23-9 victory. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
