Berkley couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell victim to a  rough 14-4 defeat at the hands of the Lutheran North Mustangs  on Tuesday.  On Lutheran North's side,  Elizabeth Jones and  Elise Mantay made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing,  Jones   pitched three innings while giving up just one earned  (and two unearned) runs off   one  hit. Meanwhile,  Mantay   struck out six batters over  four innings while giving up just one earned run off   three  hits. At the plate,  Jones  scored two  runs while going 2-for-2, while  Mantay  scored a  run while going 2-for-3.
 In other batting news, Lutheran North let  Katie Martin and  Emerson Winarski loose on the outfield. Martin  scored three  runs while going 3-for-4, while  Winarski  scored two  runs while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of  Priscilla Guthrie, who  went 2-for-4 with two  RBI and a  double.
 Berkley will be playing at home against Oxford at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Berkley has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Lutheran North, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mercy at 4:30  p.m.  on Monday.
