There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the action were the efforts of Midway's senior Tanner Mordecai, an offensive menace who scored seven total TDs.
Welcome
Things turned out as expected for DeSoto last week -- mostly, at least. The team was expected to win big, but the final result was not so decisive. It narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past South Grand Prairie 17 - 14. Two standouts for DeSoto were junior Daryon Triche and senior Kelan Walker; the former rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns while the latter ran for 119 yards and snatched up one reception. Thanks to its success, DeSoto cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 22nd spot.
Can't Touch This
Midway's 63 - 28 win over Ellison last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Tanner Mordecai. Mordecai threw for 407 yards and five touchdowns. That performance made Mordecai one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The clash of the power ranking titans last week was between Cy-Fair (21st in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Langham Creek (65th). Cy-Fair was able to grind out a solid victory over Langham Creek, winning 30 - 21. Cy-Fair saw its record improve to 9-0 and its power rank jump ten places as a result.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between The Woodlands (3rd in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Rockwall (78th). This will be the second home game in a row for The Woodlands. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
