Football Recap: Southmont Piles Up the Points Against Crawfordsville

Southmont put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 28-0 victory over the Crawfordsville Athenians. The Mounties have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Athenians, too.

Southmont got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Heath Tolliver out in front who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries, and also threw for 17 yards and one touchdown. Avery Stadler was another key rusher, gaining 120 total yards and a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southmont was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 264 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Southmont's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Crawfordsville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southmont will head out to challenge North Putnam at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mounties will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Crawfordsville, they will challenge Cascade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cadets will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
