The DuQuoin Indians were the 67-65 winner over the Salem Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. DuQuoin took a serious blow against Salem on Saturday, falling 70-35. DuQuoin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
DuQuoin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Maynor, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Gavin Zimmermann went supernova for Salem, scoring 22 points. Brenan Lux was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
DuQuoin's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-15. As for Salem, their win bumped their record up to 9-17.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DuQuoin will challenge Pinckneyville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Salem, Salem and Mater Dei will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Mater Dei focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
