Portsmouth West dropped their record down to 5-10 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Wheelersburg Pirates by a score of 2-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 9th.

As for Wheelersburg, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

For Wheelersburg's part, the result came thanks to Ean Conn's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. Conn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wheelersburg's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Longfellow, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg will take on rival Waverly at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 1.9, the Tigers 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
