Geneva is 8-2 against Mynderse Academy since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Geneva has five straight wins, Mynderse Academy has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Geneva didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Penn Yan Academy 14-2 on Thursday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Dylan Weisner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Ben Santos was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Dorrington, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mynderse Academy scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Penn Yan Academy by a score of 6-5.
Byron Catalano was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with eight stolen bases and two runs. Caleb Mahoney was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Geneva's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Mynderse Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Mynderse Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. It's a different story for Mynderse Academy, though, as they've only averaged .164. Will they be able to contain Geneva's hitters?
Everything went Geneva's way against Mynderse Academy in their previous meeting back in April, as Geneva made off with a 17-3 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
