Soraya Dorsey made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Savannah McKibben was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Shoemaker, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, South Medford has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.38 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came up short against Roseburg, falling 11-5. The Panthers have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
South Medford also got a good showing from Aliyah Gomez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero earned runs gave Gomez a new career-low.
At the plate, South Medford saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Butterfield, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Sheldon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Medford, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Sheldon was able to grind out a solid win over South Medford in their previous matchup on April 8th, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Irish since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
