Softball Recap: Union City Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Union City, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Everything went their way against the Youngsville Eagles on Monday as they made off with an 18-3 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 11 runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Shaelynn Kent, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season. Alivia Zielinski was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Union City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Union City pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Youngsville, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union City will head out to challenge Seneca at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Youngsville, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lakeview at 4:15 p.m. on May 5.
