Bryan Kuchta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Kenston is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-10 otherwise.
At the plate, Ryan Flynn was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Tristan Pattie also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Avon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out North Ridgeville 8-7. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Ben Strichek looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Trevor Sykora was a standout: he went 1-for-6 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Wolfe, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Avon's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Kenston, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Kenston's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Bombers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Avon, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kenston continue to outrun the ball?
