The Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles fell victim to the Whiting Oilers''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 40-0 defeat at the hands of the Oilers. Lake Station Edison has struggled against Whiting recently, as their matchup on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Leading Whiting to victory were Gabe Eggers and Nick Davenport. Eggers rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, while Davenport threw for 139 yards and three touchdowns on only six passes.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lake Station Edison to a paltry 151 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Whiting's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Shakur Parker and Servando Garza who racked up four sacks between them.
Lake Station Edison's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.0 points per game. As for Whiting, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Lake Station Edison does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Whiting has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome LaVille at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. LaVille presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Whiting in Indiana (LaVille is ranked 87th, while Whiting is ranked 285th).
