Basketball Recap: Gregory-Portland's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of three wins, Gregory-Portland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 74-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Miller Buccaneers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 1017th).

Miller got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dexter Brantley out in front who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points. Brantley continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of George Simmons, who posted ten points along with six assists and three steals.

Gregory-Portland's defeat dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Miller, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Flour Bluff the next time they take the court. Miller will host Flour Bluff at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Gregory-Portland will head out to face them at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
