Dixie is 1-9 against McCormick since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dixie Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the McCormick Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. Dixie will be strutting in after a victory while McCormick will be coming in after a defeat.
Dixie posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 36-5 win over Thornwell. Dixie has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 22 points or more this season.
Dixie's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kerri O'Shields, who scored nine points along with five steals, and Jaylia Turner, who scored 11 points along with seven steals. O'Shields is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Georgia Wojtkowski, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for McCormick, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-52 loss to Silver Bluff on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, McCormick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Silver Bluff is ranked 53rd).
Dixie has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for McCormick, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-6.
Things could have been worse for Dixie, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 41-25 loss to McCormick when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Dixie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
