Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Luther Prep's Winning Streak

After a string of eight wins, Luther Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 7-2 to the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights. The Phoenix were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Knights earlier this season, when they won 8-0.

Addy Schmidt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Schmidt wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kiara Humann, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Luther Prep's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Brookfield Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Luther Prep will head out to challenge St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brookfield Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Living Word Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Timberwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.06 runs per game on average), something the Blue Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
