It was a good run, but the Albemarle Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Thursday. They suffered a rough 74-48 loss at the hands of Bishop McGuinness. Albemarle was down 60-39 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Albemarle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amari Baldwin, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Baldwin is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 16 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Bianca Robinson, who scored 12 points.
Adelaide Jernigan was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds for Bishop McGuinness. Jernigan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Emma Wagoner was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Albemarle's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-2. As for Bishop McGuinness, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Albemarle will square off against the Rowdy Rebel Bulls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Stanly has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17. As for Bishop McGuinness, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Cornerstone Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Wednesday.
