Softball Game Preview: Hector Wildcats vs. Atkins Red Devils

Hector is 0-3 against Atkins since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Hector Wildcats will head out to face off against the Atkins Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. Hector knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Atkins likes a good challenge.

It was a proper cat-fight when Hector challenged Acorn on Tuesday. Hector put the hurt on Acorn with a sharp 13-2 victory. Fans of the Wildcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Sarena Myers was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Hector let Abigail Dodson and Addison Campbell run wild. Dodson went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Campbell scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Dodson also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Cassie Millsaps was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Hector kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Atkins had just enough and edged out South Side 7-5 on Tuesday.

Atkins is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Hector's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Hector might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Atkins when the teams last played back in April of 2018. Can Hector avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
