Francis Scott Key has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Meade Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Francis Scott Key will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Meade is ranked 63rd).
Last Thursday, Francis Scott Key was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Hereford.
Meanwhile, Meade waltzed into their contest Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 victory over Northeast. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meade can attribute much of their success to Jaisean Kenner, who scored 15 points, and Ashton Turman, who scored 24 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucaya Baldridge, who scored seven points.
Francis Scott Key's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Meade, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Francis Scott Key took a serious blow against Meade when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 74-41. Thankfully for Francis Scott Key, Mahzi Thames (who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
