After a string of four wins, the East Bernard Brahmas's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Van Vleck. East Bernard was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Van Vleck apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
East Bernard's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddox Crist, who scored 14 points. Joshua Guthman was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
It was another big night for Corey Austin, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals for Van Vleck. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Austin has scored at least a third of Van Vleck's points. Another player making a difference was Micah Burks, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
East Bernard's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6. As for Van Vleck, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
East Bernard will head out on the road to square off against Danbury at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Danbury has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 22. As for Van Vleck, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harmony School of Discovery at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harmony School of Discovery will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1489th, while Van Vleck is ranked 737th).
