2A District 3 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Lordsburg made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,204 from 12,618. The improvement came about via a 28-20 victory over Mesilla Valley Christian last week.
The Mavericks led 2A District 3 in scoring this week after putting up 28 points on the Sonblazers. Wendell Hayes ran for 206 yards in the win.
Hatch Valley's dynamic duo of Marcus Moyers and Erik Valdez proved tough for Cobre to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Moyers threw for seven yards and Valdez had seven yards receiving.
5-foot-10 quarterback Jared Rocha of Tularosa is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1084. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, Lordsburg's Hayes has rushed for 1170 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Christian Jimenez. The Mesilla Valley Christian star has 23 catches for 526 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bears take on Mesilla Valley Christian. Hatch Valley is in second place, while Mike Draper's team is in third place.
Hayes broke off the longest rushing play in 2A District 3 this week with a 72-yard scamper against the Sonblazers.
