The Oakley Plainsmen will square off against the Northern Valley Huskies at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Northern Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Oakley, who comes in off a win.
Even though Oakley has not done well against Phillipsburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Oakley came out on top against Phillipsburg by a score of 40-30.
Oakley found their leader in underclassman Jade Beckman, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Emma Mandeville, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northern Valley couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to Cheylin 50-46.
Despite the defeat, Northern Valley got a solid performance out of Austyn Cox, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Delaney Sides was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
Oakley's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Northern Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Oakley came up short against Northern Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 51-45. Can Oakley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
