The Wayzata Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Edina Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Wayzata and Eden Prairie had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Trojans skirted past the Eagles 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since May 13, 2024.
Alexa Larson looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Lexi Drasher was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Sophia Elswick also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, while Edina put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Hopkins. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Royals. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.
Ella Meyer made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meyer was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sylvia VanNorman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Kapoor, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Edina kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Edina's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7. As for Wayzata, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wayzata hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Edina struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wayzata couldn't quite get it done against Edina in their previous meeting two weeks ago as they fell 4-0. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
