The Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs were the 58-46 winner over the Corona del Sol Aztecs when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Rancho Solano Prep fell 68-59 to Corona del Sol on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sagith Vargas, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Vargas pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Miller, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Rancho Solano Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corona del Sol only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Bo Dolinsek was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 39 points and ten rebounds for Corona del Sol. Another player making a difference was Mihail Kostadinovski, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Rancho Solano Prep has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-5 record this season. As for Corona del Sol, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho Solano Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face Arizona Lutheran Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Arizona Lutheran Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 734 points over their last ten games. As for Corona del Sol, they will head out on the road to face off against Desert Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Desert Vista is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 67.7 points per game.
