The Framingham Flyers will challenge the Newton South Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Framingham is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
While Framingham's victory against Natick wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Flyers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Redhawks 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Flyers have posted since April 11th.

04/25/25 @ Billerica Memorial | 2 |
04/23/25 @ Milford | 2 |
04/11/25 vs Westford Academy | 1 |

Shelby Kiklis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chloe Nestor was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run. Emily Hudson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Newton South hadn't done well against Concord-Carlisle recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lions came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 10-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Sophie Nathanson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Nathanson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Kelley, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoe Spector, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Newton South has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Framingham, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Framingham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Newton South struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Framingham was able to grind out a solid win over Newton South in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 14-11. Do the Flyers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
