The Bellingham Bayhawks will head out on the road to challenge the Lakewood Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Bellingham has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13.
Bellingham suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Thursday. They were dealt a 55-24 loss at the hands of Anacortes. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bellingham in their matchups with Anacortes: they've now lost nine in a row.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-28, which was the final score in Lakewood's tilt against Burlington-Edison on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Lakewood has suffered against Burlington-Edison since January 5, 2017.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from MaryJo Morales, who scored six points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. EMMA TOCCO was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Bellingham's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-11. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Lakewood, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Bellingham couldn't quite finish off Lakewood in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 and fell 37-34. Can Bellingham avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
