The Covenant Day Lions will be playing at home against the Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Covenant Day will be looking to keep their 11-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Even though Covenant Day has not done well against the Hawks recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Covenant Day put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 55-35 win. Given Covenant Day's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Hawks are ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Covenant Day can attribute much of their success to Michael Marcus Jr., who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, and Tyree White, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Walker Olshefski was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Country Day School's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Charlotte Latin 67-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Covenant Day has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season.
Covenant Day took their victory against the Buccaneers in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 63-37. Will Covenant Day repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
