Lexington Catholic has won three straight games at home, while Woodford County has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Knights will host the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Lexington Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Woodford County will be coming in after a defeat.
Lexington Catholic gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Tates Creek by a score of 8-4.
Abby Hammond made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Lauren Kelley and Aevea Mosley-Franklin did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Mosley-Franklin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Mosley-Franklin has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Ford, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Lexington Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Woodford County's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 10-1 to Great Crossing.
Woodford County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Lexington Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodford County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Lexington Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Woodford County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
