Pinnacle is a perfect 10-0 against Mountain Ridge since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pioneers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mountain Lions at 3:45 p.m. Pinnacle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Pinnacle was able to grind out a solid win over O'Connor, taking the game 14-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pioneers.
The team relied heavily on Payton Crank, who fired off two home runs and four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sienna Caro was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Pinnacle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge faced Boulder Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions skirted past the Jaguars 6-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Mountain Lions, who have now won six games in a row.
Gianna Torres made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Torres wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daisy Herrera, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Mountain Ridge pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pinnacle, their win bumped their record up to 7-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Pinnacle hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Pinnacle's way against Mountain Ridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Pinnacle made off with an 8-2 victory. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mountain Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
