The Broomfield Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Fort Collins Lambkins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Broomfield will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Broomfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Skyline on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Nate Wochner looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Broomfield let Jackson Shepherd and Brendan Fritch run wild. Shepherd went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Fritch went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most RBI Shepherd has posted since back in March. JC Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Broomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyline only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Fort Collins came up short against Rocky Mountain on Thursday, falling 9-3. The Lambkins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fort Collins saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oliver Stanevich, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Kaden Souders was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Broomfield pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Collins, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Fort Collins' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Broomfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. It's a different story for Fort Collins, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Broomfield's hitters?
Broomfield beat Fort Collins 8-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lambkins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
