The Combs Coyotes will head out on the road to take on the American Leadership Academy Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Combs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully American Leadership Academy likes a good challenge.
Combs posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Arizona College Prep 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Johnathon Byaus continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Jae Lujan was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, American Leadership Academy ended up a good deal behind Eastmark on Tuesday and lost 68-49. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for American Leadership Academy in their matchups with Eastmark: they've now lost three in a row.
Combs pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for American Leadership Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Combs didn't have too much breathing room in their match against American Leadership Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 78-72 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was American Leadership Academy's Nathan Holmes, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Combs to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
