This season hasn't been kind to the Opp Bobcats, who are still winless after their 14th contest. They fell to Kinston 34-30. While losing is never fun, Opp can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while Kinston is ranked 169th).
Despite the loss, Opp saw an underclassman step up: Dionna Stoudemire scored nine points along with 14 rebounds. Stoudemire has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was TaKyra Crittenden, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Opp were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of nine games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Opp's defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-14. As for Kinston, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Opp won't have much time to rest: their next match is against New Brockton at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully New Brockton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for Kinston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brantley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
