The American Collegiate Academy Rough Riders have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were the victim of a tough 53-32 loss at the hands of Hernando Christian Academy on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to American Collegiate Academy of the 52-50 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
American Collegiate Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Jeremis Lopez and Tyrese Lowe. Lopez scored nine points along with four steals, while Lowe scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Hernando Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Jaden Montzka, who scored 24 points. Montzka is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Hedick, who scored 15 points.
American Collegiate Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Hernando Christian Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American Collegiate Academy will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against American Youth Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. American Youth Academy is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Hernando Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Indian Rocks Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Indian Rocks Christian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
