The Pelion Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell to Fox Creek 58-54. Pelion has struggled against the Predators recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Pelion got some senior leadership from Noah Pegues and Lucas New. Pegues scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while New. dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pegues has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Fields, who scored six points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Pelion were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fox Creek only racked up seven assists.
It was another big night for Connor Cannon, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds for Fox Creek. The team also got some help courtesy of Brelan Baskett, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Pelion has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Fox Creek, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-9.
Pelion will head out on the road to square off against the Rebels at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Strom Thurmond presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in South Carolina (the Rebels are ranked 102nd, while the Panthers are ranked 284th). As for Fox Creek, they will be playing at home against the Panthers at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Batesburg-Leesville is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
