Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Perry's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Perry had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Conneaut on Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Spartans 16-3. Considering the Pirates have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Morgan Winters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Madeline Infalvi was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Sydney Collins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Perry is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Conneaut, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Perry will challenge Madison at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Streaks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Conneaut, they will square off against Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
