Grainger has gone a perfect 10-0 against Claiborne recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Grizzlies will venture away from home to take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Grainger knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Claiborne likes a good challenge.
Grainger's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Saturday, when they got past Unicoi County's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Grizzlies walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Blue Devils.
Nolan Wallace was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Luke Wallace, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Nolan wasn't the only one making solid contact: Grainger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, while Claiborne put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Cordia. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Emery Keiter was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Claiborne is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Keiter was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Claiborne got a big performance out of Garrett Keiter, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Keiter is becoming a predictor of the Bulldogs' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Hunter Greer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Grainger has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Claiborne, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grainger has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Claiborne struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Grainger's way against Claiborne when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Grainger made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
