The Trego Golden Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against Decatur Community as Trego made off with a 59-37 victory. That looming 59-37 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Trego yet this season.
Leading Trego to victory were Reece Smith and Annabelle Malsam. Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Malsam scored 15 points. Malsam continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Shubert, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Despite the defeat, Decatur Community saw an underclassman step up: Brylee Minnick scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Minnick is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Oien, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Trego now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Decatur Community, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2.
Trego will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hill City at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Decatur Community will be home for the holidays to greet Oakley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oakley is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
