On Saturday, The Quilcene Rangers faced the Tulalip Heritage Hawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Quilcene fell just short of Tulalip Heritage by a score of 28-25. Quilcene was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Tulalip Heritage apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2015.
Quilcene's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Dominic Smith, who rushed for 11 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 151 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes. Oliver Hopkins was another key contributor, picking up 151 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Quilcene's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Tulalip Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Quilcene will be playing at home against Neah Bay at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Neah Bay is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Tulalip Heritage, they will head out on the road to face off against Lummi at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lummi comes in on a streak of failing to score more than zero points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
