Newton hasn't had much luck against Huntington recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Newton's offense. They lost 16-0 to Central Heights on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Huntington got themselves on the board against Pollok Central on Tuesday, but Pollok Central never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brendan Fitzgerald was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Huntington is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise. Fitzgerald was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Huntington let Caleb Terrazas and Alex McGilvra run wild. Terrazas went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while McGilvra went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs McGilvra has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Kullen Fountain, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Huntington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pollok Central only posted an OBP of .059.
The victory made it two in a row for Huntington and bumps their season record up to 12-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Newton might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Huntington in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
